The Future of Technology

Image
This topic is very vast, and there are many topics to talk about when it comes to future technologies. As humans, we can be so very creative and persistent that we can turn stuff that is of science fiction into a reality. In the last 20 or 30 years, we only dreamt about the idea of AI, a futuristic society where technology is integrated into every aspect of our lives, and space colonization. As of now, we are a far cry away from what we envisioned 20 or so years ago, but we have made great progress towards these ideas. Language Learning Models such as Chat-GPT or Google's Gemini can spit out human-like text responses to queries, we have AI assistants such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri who can interpret voice commands and respond accordingly. We have smart devices such as light switches, doors, and cleaning robots that can be activated and controlled with a tap of a button on our phones. (jokes aside, the world as we know it would crumble if this were true) ...

Assistive Technology

Image
In the 21st century, there are many Assistive Technologies around us. Many of the Assistive Technologies that we see not only serve the disabled populace, but also the general populace as well. AI Assistants are one such case; we can ask Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, or Google's virtual assistant to handle our requests or queries. But among these Assistive Technologies are those that are dedicated to serving the disabled populace.     We have software applications such as Be My Eyes and Seeing AI, which was made specifically for those that are visually impaired. They help the visually impaired by describing text, scenery, barcodes, and in some cases, people with facial recognition technology. This software relays the description with an AI voice, which may be accurate enough to help pronounce words for those that are dyslexic.     However, many of these Assistive Technology services often come at a cost, which is of no surprise since nothing is f...

Web 2.0

Image
Web 2.0 is defined as the second generation of the Internet where websites are designed to have increased user interactivity, i.e. social networking, sharing of user-generated content, games, blogs, and more. I grew up in the 21st century which was right after Web 2.0 was born, so what I know about the Internet and how I view it is from the perspective of Web 2.0. From what I know from reading about Web 1.0. I can't imagine using the Internet if all there was were static webpages which only contained information. It would be akin to reading a book except in an online format.     What I enjoy most about the Internet is the dynamic features and implements in websites and applications that engage user interactivity. It makes the process of seeking knowledge, entertainment, and communication more enjoyable when the click of a mouse, key, our touch of a touchscreen has a profound effect on our lives and others. Copyright And Fair Use

Image
In this week, we covered the topic of Copyright and Fair Use, and what exactly these terms mean and entail in the real world. Before watching the video and reading up on resources about this topic, I had already known what these terms meant, especially since I had already taken on class on Ethics in Software Engineering, which covers Copyright of software, and even other things such as protecting user privacy, software licenses, etc.                                                                                                 Public Domain Image on the Spectrum of Rights     Copyright is a mechanism that protects creators monetary gain from others who may seek to take t...

Digital Literacy

Image
Me learning about a term that I already know about      Digital Literacy can be described as the ability to use technology in order to help communicate, create, and consume digital content. Although I was aware of the term in a general sense, I never delved deeply on the definition of digital literacy, and how multi-faceted the term really is. Although many different professors of literacy have slightly different definitions of the term, the general gist of the term is agreed upon by the public.      Digital Literacy is an important skill to have, especially in the 21st century where technology is integrated heavily into all aspects of life whether it be one's personal, student, or professional life. Misinformation is commonly spread throughout digital media, so being able to identify reliable sources is important to making well-informed decisions.      Although its not terribly surprising, I was still a bit shocked, or should I say felt old ...

Communities of Practice

Image
I had just finished reading and watching this week's material on the Communities of Practice, and I found that I already know about most of the ideas or insights that were shared in the papers/videos. The main ideas that I gathered were that just following instruction manuals aren't enough to fix problems most of the time. There is stuff that you can only learn on the job and not in school, and there is also stuff that you can only learn by collaborating with others.      From my understanding, a community of practice is a community where practitioners, subject matter experts, or even anyone that shares a common interest can interact and share ideas or knowledge about a particular subject. I believe that having a community of like-minded individuals that are open to different perspectives is important for personal growth. Not only can we share our problems and have other people provide their insights, we can also make lifelong relationships through the...

Just Finished My Digital Story...

Image
Today, I'd just finished up recording my voice over for the digital story assignment I had for ITEC 315. It honestly wasn't a lot of work, but that is because I didn't put much effort into video editing. I didn't really want to put a lot of time into the video editing because I was more focused on telling my story. Unnecessary transitions or video magic might distract or take away the message of the story. I basically told a story about how I had ghosted my MMA instructor, but they still showed up to my graduation 2 years later. It showed that there are people that cared about me, even when I didn't.     I was trying to find a photo of my instructor to post here, but I decided not to out of respect for his privacy. Here's an illustration.       These past few weeks, I wasn't really feeling like doing much work on this class, mostly because I'd rather put more focus on my other classes that are of interest to me. That lack of motivation might ...
